Brent Taylor Re-elected without Opposition

Brent Taylor, Chairman of the Memphis City Council, was effectively re-elected last Thursday when no one qualified to challenge him in the upcoming municipal election. Taylor, who is known across Middle and West Tennessee for his participation in Republican politics, will begin his third term on the Council after the October 9th election.

In 1995, he became the youngest person ever elected to the City Council. He was elected Chairman of the Council in January of this year. A conservative, Taylor recently returned nearly $100,000 in unused Council appropriations to the city's general fund. "I believe everyone in government must do their part to hold the line on spending and taxes. As Chairman, I'm pleased that I was able to return significant funds to the city's coffers," remarked Taylor.

Taylor and his wife, Kimberly, are the parents of six year old Gage and three year old Molly. They are members of the Bartlett United Methodist Church and reside in Cordova. Taylor serves as Vice President of Memphis Funeral Home.

He represents District 2 on the City Council. His district includes parts of Cordova, East Memphis, and Hickory Hill.
