Taylor announces MLGW Rate Decrease
October 30, 2000 <-back to news page

Memphis City Councilman Brent Taylor has announced that Memphis Light, Gas, and Water is reducing gas rates by 13 percent. The temporary rate decrease applies to residential customers during the months of January through March 2001.

"It's a pleasure to announce that MLGW is decreasing gas rates for the upcoming winter," Taylor remarked. "This rate decrease will save the average consumer about $12 per month and help offset soaring natural gas prices," he said. Budget reductions and savings in the pension system combined to allow MLGW to pay for the rate cut.

Taylor noted this is MLGW's third rate decrease in as many years. "MLGW cut commercial and industrial gas rates in 1999 and electric rates for all consumers earlier this year," stated Taylor.
