Taylor assists Local Government in Fight against Adult Entertainment

Councilman Brent Taylor of Memphis recently met with Henderson County Executive Dennis Ray McDaniel and Lexington Mayor Bennie Scott to discuss "adult entertainment" in Henderson County. Taylor has extensive experience fighting adult entertainment in Memphis and came to Lexington to share his experiences with McDaniel and Scott.

On his visit to Lexington, Taylor provided McDaniel and Scott with extensive research, court-tested ordinances, and other information from the anti-pornography National Law Center in Fairfax, Virginia. He has teamed with Citizens for Community Values to oppose sexually oriented businesses in Memphis. Taylor said that Citizens for Community Values has offered assistance to Lexington and Henderson County.

"The best defense against sexually oriented businesses is to stop them before they ever open their doors," remarked Taylor. "That means adopting very strict guidelines on the front end to discourage adult entertainment from entering your community," he said.

Taylor also delivered the information to Commissioner John Bobbitt who chairs the committee that will study the adult entertainment issue. Last year, Taylor assisted McNairy County in a similar battle against sexually oriented businesses. McNairy County now has adopted many of his suggestions.
