Councilman Brent Taylor announced today that Joe Boyd Burnette will become the Fayette County Representative to the Chickasaw Basin Authority Board.
Councilman Taylor serves as the Vice Chairman of the Chickasaw Basin Authority and was instrumental in insuring that Fayette County was represented on this Board. The Chickasaw Basin Authority is a 27-year old commission. It was designed by the state legislature to stimulate the development of all water and land resources in the basin area, as well as allow for regional water resources planning and surface water management. All counties and municipalities in the Chickasaw Basin (the drainage area of the Wolf and Loosahatchie Rivers and the Nonconnah and Horn Lake Creeks) are, by state statute, to be represented on the Authority. Fayette County, however, has not been represented on the Authority until now.
"It's time for Fayette County to have a seat at the table on the Chickasaw Basin Authority. The basin lies within our two counties, Shelby and Fayette, and Fayette should be part of the discussions and decision making. The work of the CBA is vital to the success of our farm land and our farmers," said Brent Taylor of the appointment of Mr. Burnette.
Mr. Joe Boyd Burnette is a resident of Moscow with farming and banking interests throughout Fayette County.
